The Church of the Nativity - 50 fils
The Church of the Nativity (كنيسة المهد) in Bethlehem is one of the oldest continuously operating major Christian sanctuaries in the world. According to Christian tradition and the canonical Gospels, the site enshrines the sacred Grotto of the Nativity, the cave identified as the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Originally commissioned in the 4th century by Emperor Constantine the Great and his mother, Saint Helena, the basilica was completed in 339 AD and subsequently rebuilt in the 6th century under Byzantine Emperor Justinian I after suffering fire damage, establishing Bethlehem as a central pilgrimage destination throughout Christian history. The view highlights the fortified exterior complex of the basilica, characterized by massive medieval stone buttresses, surrounding monastic compounds, and historic bell towers rising above Manger Square. Over the centuries, the complex integrated Romanesque and Crusader additions while preserving its ancient Byzantine core. Managed under the long-standing historic Status Quo arrangement by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Custody of the Holy Land (Roman Catholic), and the Armenian Apostolic Church, the sanctuary remains a globally celebrated landmark of ecclesiastical architecture and spiritual heritage.
