Visit of Shah of Iran - 50 fils
This commemorative stamp was issued by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to mark the historic royal visit of His Imperial Majesty Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, to Jordan in November 1959. Coming at a time of significant geopolitical shifts in the Middle East, particularly following Iraq's sudden withdrawal from the Baghdad Pact earlier that year, this high-profile state visit served as a powerful declaration of mutual solidarity. By hosting the Iranian monarch, King Hussein sought to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and security ties with another prominent pro-Western non-Arab state in the region, countering Jordan's geopolitical isolation and consolidating stability amidst regional unrest. The postal administration released this series to formally commemorate the encounter, highlighting the cooperative spirit and shared strategic interests of the two monarchies on the international stage. During his visit, the Shah toured major national landmarks, including sacred sites in East Jerusalem, which further solidified the religious and cultural dimensions of the bilateral alliance. Today, this issue serves as an important philatelic record of a brief but highly collaborative chapter of Jordan-Iran relations during the mid-20th century.
