The Freedom from Hunger Campaign - 35 fils
The Freedom from Hunger Campaign (الحملة العالمية لمكافحة الجوع) was a global initiative launched in 1960 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the leadership of Director-General B. R. Sen. The multi-year campaign aimed to mobilize international action, raise public awareness, and stimulate rural agricultural development to combat global malnutrition, poverty, and food insecurity, culminating in 1963 with the convening of the First World Food Congress in Washington, D.C. Postal administrations worldwide participated in a coordinated philatelic release in the spring of 1963 to support the humanitarian mission and promote global food solidarity. The design unites the core symbolic motifs of the United Nations agricultural campaign. A stylized green-and-white ear of wheat rises on the left, embodying sustainable harvest, cereal crop resilience, and staple nutrition. To its right, the official United Nations globe and olive branch emblem is surmounted by the FAO acronym and a flying white dove in flight holding an ear tip, symbolizing international cooperation, peace, and the shared global commitment to eradicating chronic hunger.
