Welcome to Jordan Stamps

King Hussein II (1935-1999) - 35 fils

This definitive postage stamp was issued by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1954 as part of a comprehensive definitive series introducing the portrait of the young King Hussein bin Talal to the public on everyday mail. Released shortly after his formal 1953 ascension to the throne, this series succeeded postal issues featuring his predecessor, King Talal, and his grandfather, King Abdullah I. By distributing this series across the country, the postal administration established the image of the young monarch as the definitive head of state, solidifying his role as the new face of the sovereign Jordanian nation. The series went on to see extensive domestic and international postal circulation throughout the mid-to-late 1950s, a critical decade of national development and political consolidation for the young kingdom. Utilizing the everyday postal network to build national cohesion, the stamps served as an important instrument of state-building that projected Jordan's political continuity and royal authority to the wider world. Today, this landmark release remains a key historical artifact capturing the optimistic start of King Hussein's long and influential 46-year reign.
